Where will my shoot take place?

Most of our shoots take place in or at least start at our studio on the east/central side of town near Park Place Mall. Occasionally a shoot is determined to be best done outside or at a location that best represents you. It is common for Senior sessions and Branding Sessions to have an additional on-location piece added.

Do you have a style closet?

We have a limited style closet of actual dresses, skirts and lace coverups. We also have a large selection of satin, silk, chiffon, and taffeta drapings in which we create "on the spot" gowns that are styled and fit your body perfectly. See our Art of Her Blog posts for examples.

What is your Booking Process? How far ahead should I book my session?

We don't take every session we're approached to photograph, and you shouldn't work with every photographer you meet. It's truly important that we work with people who share our brand values --which is why we always start with a phone call.

In order to serve our clients best, we limit our photo shoot bookings to 5 per month. We are often booking at about 6-8 weeks in advance and recommend clients book their shoot approximately 2 months ahead of needing their finished product.

Photo shoots are held on Wednesdays and Thursdays at either 9:30am or 12:30pm at our Eastside studio. Additional dates and on-location requests may be available upon request and for an additional fee.

In order to book a photo shoot, a signed photo agreement and our full session fee is due at time of booking to hold your date. For Luxe Branding Sessions, 50% is due and the other 50% will be required 24 hours before your planning appointment.

Upon booking your photo shoot you will receive a text confirmation and an email containing important details, you will also receive a series of emails to help you prepare leading up to your shoot.

What is included in a shoot? and How much does a photo shoot cost?

Our typical portrait session are approximately 2-3 hours long (includes makeup time), while our brand sessions can last anywhere from 4-6 hours depending on package type and need.

We do not limit outfit changes in our times, and are only limited here by how much we can do in that time frame.

Our sessions start at $690 and go up from there. They all include your session, makeup artistry, your Style and Concept planning appointment and credit towards your purchase (credit starts at $500 and goes up from there depending on session package).

Some clients spend only that $500, while others may spend $10,000 or more. Most personal portrait clients spend around $3500 on their additional products and images, while most brand sessions go on to spend an additional $2500.

Get huge additional savings when pre-purchasing packages at your booking call (up to $2360!). Ask us about those!

What is your shoot style and editing philosophy?

Our style is tends towards bold, minimal, timeless and empowering. Our goal is that this shoot is about showcasing the amazing and phenomenal woman you are. With this in mind, props and background items are minimally used and only included if they add importance to the overall story of your image.

Our editing style, similarly, is minimal. We remove anything that does not typically exist on your (blemishes, acne, bruising etc) and soften but leave anything that is typically a permanent part of you (scars, moles, etc). We smooth "body bumps" that may be caused from posing or siting, but keep it true to the beautiful you that someone would meet in person. We don't believe in changing who you are in a photo and want it to be a best representation of the real you.

Additional editing may be requested that you may have specific concerns for at an additional charge.

How should I prepare for my photo shoot?

Most of our clients care about having volume in their hair, so I always suggest getting a blow out the day before or the morning of to help that show up beautifully. Most of our shoots included makeup artistry, so please show up with hair done and ready to go. If you would like to add on simple curling/styling, this is an available option done through our makeup artist.

Remember to have clean nails, freshly painted. Generally a neutral, French manicure or buff goes with everything, nails often come into frame for close ups. Colors are fun! Just be mindful of what you will be wearing for your shoot and if it will match. Same goes for toenails for many shoots.

What should I wear/bring?

Great news! Because some of this depends on your shoot and it's needs, we will plan your shoot together during your style & concept planning appointment.

But some good rules of thumb are: Avoid patterns as much as possible, solids are a perfect option for photography, if you want to mix it up think texture! 3/4 sleeve shirts flatter arms wonderfully well, avoid cap sleeves. Think layers as they are often flattering on everyone, consider a cardigan or blazer if that is your style. For jewelry: bold and statement making or simplistic and "just the right touch" - You choose, whatever your style is go with that!

When and how will I view my photos?

Headshots and Branding are often viewed together over zoom, approximately 7-10 days after your shoot. For personal portraits we view those in person together approximately 7-10 days after your shoot.

What happens if I need to reschedule?

When a client is booked, Renee (our makeup artist) and myself take that time allotment very seriously and block out that time on our calendars. Reschedules less than 2 weeks out make it nearly impossible for us to book new work in its place. Last minute reschedules may require a $250 booking fee, that is waived one time in the following circumstances:

- Client gives at least one week (7 days) or more advanced notice.

- Client is sick (To keep ourselves, our families and our other clients safe, please don't bring us your sickies-- not to mention you will hate how you look if you are unwell)

- Unexpected last minute emergency

After that initial time, and additional reschedule may require a booking fee in to accommodate for time lost.

Will you be publishing my photos online?

While fresh new work is the most common way clients decide to book us, We never require a client to allow us to share their images online. If you are concerned about this please let us know and we will make sure your images are not shared online or on social media.

Can I share my photos online?

Absolutely! Clients sharing photos they love and giving us a little shout out is the absolute most common way for us to get new business, plus we love to gush on you too when you post! While, as I said, mentioning us is a huge compliment and amazing way to help our small business, we also never ever require that you mention or tag us in photos you post.

What printed products do you offer for personal portraiture?

We offer wall art, portrait boxes and albums.

What are the most popular print items?

Our most popular print items are our portrait boxes (made in New Zealand), our Albums (Made in Poland or Italy, depending on your choice) and our Canvas wall art (made in the United States)

What is the turnaround time on printed products?

This depends greatly on the season, however most items are available 4-6 weeks after your digitals have been delivered.
